“The Faces of Climate Change” Wins 2008 Emmy Award

The Suncoast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences awarded an Emmy for a series of ads produced for “The Faces of Climate Change in Florida” campaign.  The 2008 Regional Emmy Award Ceremony was held Saturday, December 6, at the Rosen Shingle Creek Hotel in Orlando, Florida.

The campaign was produced by Tallahassee’s Ron Sachs Communications for the Florida Wildlife Federation through a grant from the Environmental Defense Fund. “The Faces of Climate Change in Florida” is a series of ads showcasing Florida entrepreneurs who are reducing greenhouse gas emissions through innovative green business solutions. The series was directed by Special Projects Director Lisa Garcia and produced by Senior Producer Charlie Belvin and co-produced by Evolution Media.

The goal of the campaign is to build an informed and engaged constituency who supports leadership addressing the climate change crisis at the federal level.

“The unfolding threat of climate change has launched a worldwide race to a new energy future,” said Jerry Karnas, Florida Climate Project Director at Environmental Defense Fund (EDF).  “Florida has a lot to lose if climate change continues unchecked, given our 1,200 miles of coastline, low-lying topography and location in the hurricane belt.”

“I have never seen an issue develop so rapidly and with such tremendous interest as I have the awareness of climate change and the unprecedented interest from citizens and politicians,” said Manley Fuller, President of the Florida Wildlife Federation.  “I am grateful to EDF for the opportunity to collaborate on this important issue, and to all of the entrepreneurs featured in the ads.”

The Suncoast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences is a nonprofit organization dedicated to excellence in television. The Suncoast Regional Emmy Awards recognize programs aired in Florida, Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia and Puerto Rico.
