Century Commission to Host
2008 Water Congress

Congress to Find Solutions to Florida’s Water Challenges

Tallahassee — The Century Commission for a Sustainable Florida will host the 2008 Water Congress: Planning for Florida’s Water Future in Orlando, Sept. 25 and 26. The two day event will be held at the Orlando World Center Marriott and is open to the public. Registration information and details can be found at www.centurycommission.org.

According to Century Commission Executive Director Tim Center, “During the Water Congress, we are bringing together people and organizations that represent water from all aspects—environmental, agricultural and public use. What we will come away with is a concrete set of recommended policies and action steps that will respond to Florida’s water needs over the next 50 years.”

Ensuring a sustainable water supply is one of the major issues the state will face over the next 50 years. During the Water Congress, presentations will be made to groups of voting delegates who will consider, discuss and evaluate the information. After discussion, the 120 delegates will prioritize the information and create a set of priority actions — steps that will need to be taken — to provide statewide, long-term water supply and conservation practices.

For registration information or questions, contact Holly Banks, McRae and Company, 850.906.0099. For information about sponsorship opportunities, contact Tim Center, Century Commission for a Sustainable Florida, 850.219.0082 x 5.

The Century Commission, established by the Florida Legislature in 2005, is tasked with envisioning the future of Florida, to help citizens and state leaders prepare for a continued increase in population and to craft a plan that meets the challenges and opportunities of a growing population.

In its Second Annual Report to the Governor and Legislature, released in January 2008, the Century Commission identified the importance of developing a statewide water conservation, use and supply plan for environmental, agricultural and public consumption purposes.
