Our Work

Christy Draper

Clean water
Our economy and ecology are dependent upon clean and adequate water. With a booming population, Florida is facing a deterioration of our quality of life and our environment as water sources are diminished and degraded. FWF has for many years advocated for statewide conservation of water resources, the ending of pollution, and restoration of our internationally recognized freshwater springs and the unique Everglades ecosystem, which provides water for millions of Floridians.

Jonah Parker-Hanson

Florida Black bear
Our native bear population is under increasing pressure due to development, highways and habitat fragmentation in rapidly developing Florida. FWF works to permanently conserve bear habitat and educate Floridians and visitors about the important role bears play in our natural landscape. As a keystone animal, if we protect the bear, we also protect a myriad of other Florida species.

Florida panther
Our panther, which once roamed the entire Southern United States, is now isolated in Southwest Florida. For many years, FWF has promoted both panther habitat conservation and wildlife crossings. Crossings allow panthers and other native species to safely cross roadways. FWF also facilitates the education of school children in panther country as to the needs of the panthers and how we can ensure that this wonderful emblem of the “real Florida” can survive and thrive.
